Answers From The First Letter

A faster first search, a clearer way to rename, and a direct line to us.

  • Search answers from the very first letter you type. Matches appear as you type and the deeper ones from Muse Intelligence join a moment later. If your first search after opening Muse ever felt slow to start, this update resolves that.
  • Type a bookmark's name in full and that bookmark comes first, ahead of anything you happen to have opened recently. If you ever typed an exact name and found it further down the list, this update resolves that.
  • Renaming is clearer and quicker. The name becomes a field you can see, the keyboard lands in it straight away with the old name selected, and clicking anywhere else saves what you typed. Enter saves, and Escape leaves the old name alone.
  • There is a direct line to us for anything Muse should do next. New installs meet it during setup, and it is always in the Help menu: report a bug, request a feature, or see what is already planned. No account needed, and every post is read.

Space To Grow

Two of the most requested things, and everything about backups in one place.

  • You can empty the Trash. Right-click Trash in the sidebar, or type "empty trash" into the Cmd K search. Muse asks first, then clears those items for good and moves their files to your Mac's Trash, so the files themselves can still be put back from the Finder. If you ever found things you could not clear out of Muse, this update resolves that.
  • Your library can live wherever there is room. Settings, then Library, then Change moves it to an external drive or any folder you like. Muse copies everything across, checks the copy is complete before it switches over, and leaves your original folder exactly as it was.
  • Backups now include the preview images for your links, so a restored library looks right straight away rather than fetching them all again.
  • Typing a command's name into the Cmd K search puts that command first.
  • Every backup setting now sits together in a single Backup section.

Lighter On Your Mac

Muse now uses about half the memory it used to, and gives back what it stops using.

  • Muse uses about half the memory it used to. If you ever noticed Muse sitting high in Activity Monitor, this update resolves that.
  • Part of that is the window itself drawing more efficiently, so every Mac gets it whether or not you use the AI features.
  • The on-device search model now loads the first time you search instead of every time Muse opens, and puts itself away again a few minutes after you stop. Leaving Muse open all day costs you nothing.
  • Find Similar is unchanged and stays instant, because it reads an answer Muse worked out when the picture arrived.

Filing by Keyboard

Press M and file whatever you have selected, without reaching for the mouse.

  • Select anything and press M. Muse asks where to file it, you type a few letters and press Return.
  • The list now names the collection each one sits inside, so two collections sharing a name are easy to tell apart at a glance.
  • That list opens instantly and finds every collection you have, however many that is.
  • Turning the shelf off in Settings now turns it off everywhere. If you ever switched it off and still saw it appear at the edge of your screen, this update resolves that.

Faster Views, Surer Filing

Collections open instantly, filing always lands, and Settings is arranged the way you would look for things.

  • Opening a collection is immediate now, however much it holds. Muse works out the grid in a single pass instead of measuring every card over and over. If you ever saw Muse slow to a stop after clicking into a view, this update resolves that.
  • Filing something into a collection from the capture card now always puts it there. If anything you saved ever seemed to go missing afterwards, open your Inbox and you will find it waiting.
  • The Muse extension for Firefox is live, and Muse links straight to it.
  • Shelf placement is a single control. The shelf sits centred on your screen, and you choose how far in from the side it sits.
  • Settings keeps every tab and every control, with a few moved to where you would look for them. Sidebar Counts now sits beside Theme, full screen behaviour has its own Viewing section, and the Library tab reads Your Files, Import and Export, and Backup.

Moving Muse Between Macs

Freeing a Mac from your licence is now something Muse confirms rather than assumes.

  • When you deactivate a Mac, Muse waits to hear that the slot really has been freed before letting go of your licence. If it cannot reach the licence server, nothing changes and this Mac stays licensed, so you can simply try again once you are back online.
  • Settings tells you when that happens, rather than leaving you to wonder. If you ever deactivated a Mac while offline and later found yourself short of a slot, this update prevents that.
  • Your three Macs stay yours: a slot can now only be given up when it is genuinely handed back.

Your Licence, In Plain Sight

Everything about your licence now lives in one place, and entering a key tells you exactly what happened.

  • Settings now has a Licence section showing where you stand: your trial, or that Muse is yours, along with the email your purchase was made with.
  • You can enter your key whenever you like. If you buy Muse partway through your trial, you no longer have to wait for the trial to finish before Muse will take your key. If you bought early and could not find where to put your key, this update resolves that.
  • Activating now confirms itself, so you can see it has worked rather than wondering.
  • Pressing Activate more than once is safe. Muse recognises a Mac it has already activated and re-checks your licence instead of using another of your three device slots.
  • If your key is already on three Macs, Muse now says so and tells you what to do about it.
  • Deactivating this Mac is a single button in Settings, so you can move Muse to another machine yourself.
  • The key field clears when you click into it, so your key can go straight in from the clipboard.
  • Cmd K finds all of this by searching for licence, key, activate or purchase.

A Quicker, Steadier Preview

Previewing is faster to move through, videos look right from the first frame to the last, and Muse reopens where you left it.

  • Moving between items is immediate. Close a preview and the next thing you click opens straight away, with no pause in between. If you ever found yourself clicking twice, or waiting for an image to light up before it would respond, this update resolves that.
  • Previews now show the picture the moment they open, rather than starting empty and filling in.
  • Every video gets its opening frame, including large and high-resolution ones.
  • Closing a video keeps it playing all the way back into your grid, so the whole motion reads as one piece.
  • Clicking a video closes the preview, exactly the way clicking an image does. Play and pause live on the controls that appear over the video.
  • Muse reopens in the same place on your screen, at the same size, every time. If you ever noticed the window moving between launches, this update resolves that.
  • Scrolling and hovering across large collections is lighter on your Mac.

The Extension Is Live

A calmer first run, and the Muse extension is on the Chrome Web Store.

  • The Muse browser extension is live on the Chrome Web Store, and Muse now takes you straight to it from both the welcome flow and your Get Started list.
  • The welcome flow has a window of its own, so it arrives on its own rather than sitting inside an empty app window.
  • When you bring in your saves during setup, you come back to the list with that source ticked off, so you can import from somewhere else before moving on.
  • Starting a fresh library now begins with the welcome, rather than opening straight into an empty app.
  • If Muse ever cannot find your library, it now says so in Muse's own words, leading with the reassurance that nothing has been deleted.

One Home Per Item

Collections that behave the way you expect, and a title you can type straight over.

  • An item now lives in one collection, and dragging it somewhere new moves it there rather than leaving a copy behind. If you ever dropped something into a collection and found it still sitting in the old one, this is the change you were after.
  • Want the same link in two places? Save it twice and give each one its own name. Muse keeps them as separate entries, each with its own collection, tags and note.
  • When the capture card appears, the title stays selected until you touch it, so you can type a new one straight away or press Tab to keep the one Muse found.
  • Your existing library is tidied automatically on first launch. Anything that was filed in more than one place keeps the collection you filed it into most recently, and where two were filed at the same moment it keeps the more specific one.

A Ring That Follows Your Project

A drop ring that keeps up with what you are working on.

  • The ring now offers the four collections you have used most recently, rather than a fixed few. Drop something into a collection and it moves to the front of the ring for next time, so saving a run of images into one project stays quick.

Search That Stays on the Point

A sharper launcher, and a search that answers what you actually asked.

  • Search is far more precise about tags. A word now has to match the start of a tag rather than turning up anywhere inside one, and every word you type has to count. If you ever searched two words and got results that only matched the first, this update resolves that.
  • Type a collection's name exactly and it comes straight to the top, above everything else.
  • Launcher results keep one steady order: your bookmarks, then your collections, then your pictures and video. The list stays where you expect it as you type.
  • Opening a collection from the launcher with Command Return now brings Muse to the front with that collection open and ready.

A refinement to creating collections.

  • A new collection now appears exactly where you made it: directly below the collection you right-clicked, named and ready. Whatever order your sidebar is in, the row you are typing into stays put until you press Enter.

A Calmer, Clearer Library

The first update to Muse, with a quieter sidebar and view options that behave exactly as you would expect.

  • Your Include options now shape every view, not just All, so hiding a type inside a collection keeps it hidden there. If you ever saw a type you had switched off still turn up, this settles it.
  • Command-K now reaches every part of Settings: search for "backup", "shortcut" or "API key" and land on the right tab straight away.
  • The type filters wear the real X and Instagram marks, and X is named for the platform it is.
  • The Move and Remove menus now show where each collection sits, so two collections that share a name are easy to tell apart.
  • A lighter, quieter sidebar, a clearer icon picker, and smoother right-click menus throughout.
