Thank you for the sample. It showed us exactly what was happening, and we would not have found it this quickly without it.
Shiny 1.0.52 is out now. It refines how the menu bar icon is drawn: Shiny now redraws it only when the reading has actually changed, rather than in response to every appearance update macOS sends. On some Macs those updates arrive far more often than others, and your sample was what showed us that.
Shiny checks for updates on its own, so 1.0.52 should reach you shortly. If anything still looks high, another sample taken at that moment would help us again.
