Autocorrect that actually works on your Mac.Visit CharmHi, just purchased Charm and already love it! But the app does not seem to be working with Discord in Direct Messages. How do I fix this? I need this badly. Please help. Thank you!
The automatic autocorrect feature does not work to elaborate.
Doren, thanks for the heads up on the Discord direct message issue. We're looking into it right now and will post an update here as soon as we have one.
Awesome! Thank you so much! I need this ability in Discord very badly so I'm hoping you guys can fix it asap. Thank you!
It also does not work in the macOS Mail.app either. This is huge because this was the main reason I purchased Charm. Please fix. Thank you!
Doren, thanks for the extra detail, that helps us give you a clear answer.
What you're seeing in Discord and Mail isn't Charm failing, it's that these two apps handle text a bit differently under the hood than something like Notes or TextEdit. Discord's messaging area and Mail's compose window are both built on web technology rather than a plain Mac text field, and that layer doesn't reliably tell other apps exactly what's selected. Since Charm can't safely verify what it's about to replace there, it plays it safe rather than risk getting a correction wrong.
For apps like these, Charm switches to Fix Selection instead of correcting live. By default that's Option-Command-V, though you can set it to whatever's comfortable for you in Settings > Shortcuts.
If you highlight some text first, Fix Selection corrects just that. If nothing is highlighted, it corrects everything in the field, so you can also just press the shortcut without selecting anything first and it will tidy up what you've written.
We hope that clarifies things. Any other questions in the meantime, just let us know. Thanks.
Hi,
I will need refunded for my purchase because your website stated that Charm would work in every app, you did not clarify that live autocorrection would not work in some apps. You need to include a full list of apps that only work with live correction because only working in TextEdit is ridiculous. This is the ONLY reason I purchased this app. I have 7 other apps that have "select to correct" and they are also worthless. Plus Apple also corrects when selected too. Grammarly, unfortunately, dropped their live correction ability otherwise I would still be using them. I'm so incredibly disappointed.
Thank you,
-Doren
I'll just keep the purchase because I love supporting independent developers, but I'm not happy with its limitations. Thank you.
I tried to correct this sentence, "I would absolutely love to mak ethat change, but what page are you referring to that they are on?" But it corrected it wildly incorrect to this, "I would absolutely love tomato ethat change, but what page are you referring to that they are on?" Why? Makes absolutely no sense. Please help. Thank you.
Good news, Doren - Charm 1.0.64 makes exactly this kind of correction smarter (rolling out now).
Thanks for sharing the example, it was genuinely useful. The latest update refines how Charm repairs misplaced spaces: it now weighs the possible readings of a phrase in order of confidence, so a sentence like yours resolves the space in "mak ethat" into "make that", exactly as you intended.
To get it, click the Charm icon in your menu bar, then Settings > General > Check for Updates, and you'll be on 1.0.64 in a few seconds.
We hope that helps. Any other questions in the meantime, just let us know. Thanks.
Awesome! Already updated! Can't wait to continue to use the app! If I have any other issues I'll open another Ticket. Thanks again!
